a meme is a unit of cultural information that exists and acts in a way similar to a virus or organic being in that it spreads and propagates itself onward to further minds. memes are generally thought to be a human phenomena, yet i cannot see why the behaviours of other species and other elements for that matter cannot share the metaphor.
memetic engineering is the production of memes. memes are (de)constructed continually through the interaction of humans. the spreading of ideas and concepts can be thought of as memetic distribution. some memes take on a life of their own and move up in the ranks of heirarchy and influence the attitude of organisms.
a meme such as the 'act normal' meme is a highly inhibitory meme, as are many traditional morals. they are high and powerful memes that have taken on a god-like status and influence much of societies behaviour. they could be said to be passed down like genes from parent to sibling. seen from this angle, memes act as units in the process of cultural evolution.
the chaos meme opens one to the unknown.
